It is the end of a warm early summer’s day and the light is fading on the island of Oléron. The familiar lines of poles and wires zigzag across the horizon, which so epitomise the island’s scenery. This punctuation of the composition is an element that reoccurs in much of my work and often in my Oléron paintings, signifying communication and connections in what can appear to be an otherwise empty or abandoned landscape.
