Six Cabins

Six cabins, in the hazy light of a May morning, radiate their colours in the speckled landscape of land and sky, faintly reflecting their facades in the still pools below. The telegraph poles and wires punctuate the flat horizon of the Île d’Oléron and somewhere in the distance the cries of gulls can be heard on a light breeze.

This painting of Oléron was made by layering thin transparent coats of paint to increase depth and allow the runs of paint in the water. Both brushes and palette knives were used to create the different textures.
