One of the attractive features of the île d’Oleron are the painted wooden cabins dotted about the inland channels not far from the shores of the eastern coast. They are a common feature in my Oléron paintings. There are many that could do with a little tender loving care, but their abandoned appearance makes us love them all the more.
This little loner sits on a muddy creek in a wilderness of coastal vegetation, where overgrown paths of oyster shells wind between the tufts of spiky grasses, and the sparse landscape is gently caressed by a sea breeze.
