Around the Pools

Coloured cabins, from different générations of oyster farmers, nestle side by side in the little port of Fort Royer. It is Sunday. It is quiet and the only activity is from the gulls that pitch and wheel between the telegraph poles, their cries ringing out across the marshes near by, momentarily silencing the sound of the waves that lap softly upon the shoreline beyond the port.

Artist’s notes :
I am always attracted to painting reflections and I loved the horizontal bands of colour in this composition, punctated by the vertical stakes that line the river banks and reflect in the water below. The telegraph wires add a lyrical élément to the scène, bringing sky and land together.

This painting is finished to the sides in black linen tape and has fixings in place, ready to hang, making framing optional.
