Artist Statement & Biography

« My work lies in my fascination of the transient interchange of human existence.

I examine seemingly banal journeys that incorporate the real and surreal, touching on emotions of sensitivity, fragmentation and latent intégration that portray an immanent conceptulization of my view of the world . »

Biography

Amanda Rackowe (b. 1964) is a British painter, settled in France since 2006.

After following an art foundation course she studied theatrical lighting design, an influence which is evident in her paintings, spending time working in the theatres of London’s West End and on tour around the country. She often referred to her work as “painting with light”.

Her interest in lighting soon migrated towards architecture and the artist joined YRM, a large architectural company in their interior design department before joining Lighting Design Partnership as a lighting designer and consultant .

During this time she continued drawing and painting, often entering local exhibitions and competitions with success.

Her work as in independent lighting consultant continued until her subsequent move to France with her family, when she decided to devote herself full time to her painting, also teaching oil painting for 16 years to students in her area.

The artist has recently joined “Figuration Inévitable”, a group of seventeen contemporary figurative artists, selected by artist Carole Melmoux. Together the group has exhibited at Art Capital in Paris, at the Grand Palais Ephemère in 2024 and the newly refurbished Grand Palais in 2025.

Rackowe is a regular contributor and member of La Société des Beaux Arts du Périgord, as well as a regular contributor to exhibitions all over France, in addition to her organised solo shows.
