The Chenal d’Ors at the entrance to L’Île d’Oléron remains one of the most authentic districts of the island and remains primarily dedicated to oyster cultivation. Gradually the cabins are being replaced by more modern and solid constructions. However, several of the old wooden cabins still remain, their once brightly coloured painted walls now fading.
