Perched on a high hill, a lone house and barn are framed by pale blue clouds scudding across a vast sky. A huge gap reveals the clear azure above, allowing a shaft of light to spill onto the sloping landscape, creating a pool of pale green onto the flatter land below. The colours of the fields transition in gentle layered zig-zagging gradients whilst rocks emerge from the grassy slopes, forming natural stone walls. Far below stands a weathered telegraph pole, a scraggy bush at its base, a symbol of resilience in an harsh environment; to either side a humble post and wire fence pushes the composition’s horizontal boundaries of the landscape with quiet determination, echoing another, hardly visible, high up on the horizon, punctuating the line between land and sky
Thick impasto and oil glazes were laid side by side, using a palette knife in large sweeping motions, the textures creating the natural contours of the stones, bushes and lines of the land, picked out in oil pastel. The title pays homage to the Beatles hit, one of the artist’s favourite songs, transporting the viewer into a world where the landscape itself becomes the central character, inviting both introspection and reflection.
