A sombre interior is thrown into a vision of ‘chiaroscuro’ as light from the window pours in and reflects upon a shiny floor. The space is the library area of the Frac at Bordeaux that leads on into the exhibition rooms. An anonymous figure is thrown into silhouette by the bright rectangles behind him, his reflection appearing to melt into the floor and seep away into the canvas. The deep interiors of the book shelves suck the light away into their depths as the lit spines echo the linear horizontals at the window.
Artist’s notes:
I am fascinated by exhibition spaces. It is as much about the people visiting as it is about the art for me. A visit to a gallery has a double edge; I get to see great art and I get to see people enjoying great art. These people become part of the picture, unconsciously becoming exhibition pieces. Their involvement in the pieces on display , their integration with them and the space is part of a new work, a new exhibition piece and my aim is to capture that role that they play.
