In the deep dark interiors of the abandoned colonie de vacances at Domino, shadows come and go. This place is not yet dead.
This painting comes from a series of works based on views of a collection of old buildings that made up a former ‘colonie de vacances’. The cluster of dormitories and shower blocks sit on one of the highest points on the Île d’Oleron. It would normally take the full force of the winds blowing in from the Atlantic just a short distance away, but the ravages of sea air are tempered by the curtains of tall bending pines that stand in between, slowing the journey towards ultimate decay.
